What We Do - Building Information Modeling

What We Do > Building Information Modeling

Our BIM team have been instrumental in the advances in digital collaboration technologies and practices which present the most exciting developments in building design and development since the introduction of CAD technology. We have significantly developed our use of BIM across the group achieving BS EN ISO 1650 accreditation which stands us out in the market against our competition we also utilise the resources of BIM360 across our offices.

Our experienced teams have also worked with numerous developers, information managers, design teams and operators to develop first class solutions to support the BIM Level 2 delivery objectives, which, reduce the number of design errors, improved speed and clearer communication and coordination within the project team. Many external stakeholders can greatly benefit from C.E.S. Engineering input into their projects.

Our strategy is focused on the high-level advantages of BIM which will maximise our clients benefit on the projects, which offer:

  • Early design validation and prototyping to show how assets will appear and operate, helping to speed up the approval process and ensure buildability
  • Opportunity to model several options and asses the impact of each
  • Optimisation of solutions to reduce design, construction and operation costs
  • Closer collaboration with design team members and contractors leading to reductions in tender risk premiums, lower insurance costs, fewer overall variations and fewer opportunities for claims

Our delivery team has innovation in their DNA and are fully conversant in the use of 3D modelling software on BIM projects, and we believe that BIM adoption delivers tangible design and cost efficiencies. Implementation of 3D BIM will offer time savings during design and construction stages through a coordinated clash-free design solution, 3D visualisation which aids better stakeholder engagement thus reducing consultation time, and reduction in the number of technical queries once work on site commences. 4D BIM, where deemed necessary, will offer better understanding of the programme and site logistics, whilst our adoption of CostX software will enable us to quickly and accurately take off quantities from 3D models. SCMS have invested in Revit as a design and drawing platform which enables BIM processes to be used throughout the design, construction and asset management periods.

We will advocate for the use and adoption of latest technologies such as laser scanning, photogrammetry, virtual reality and augmented reality to support our BIM and GIS capabilities. Such knowledge and expertise enable us to accurately capture data about existing buildings and find innovative design solutions on complex sites. It would also enable our clients and other stakeholders to learn more about the buildings and assets, existing or proposed, and explore ways of maximizing value from them.
