Center of Excellence for Clean Energy Technology, Dawson Creek

Centre for Excellence for Clean Energy Technology (CECET) is 8100 SF net-zero energy demonstration project that includes geo-exchange system, biomass boiler, radiant slab system, solar domestic preheat system, rainwater collection and gray water system, photovoltaic and wind turbine electrical generators.

The ecoOPERA™ EMIS installed for this project will provide:

  • Collection of energy meters from over 150 measurement points with sampling rate of 1min. The EMIS provides central acquisition server that communicates with the measurement points using BACnet and MODBUS protocols.
  • Real-time monitoring  and tracking performances of the following building systems and sub-systems:
    • Ground Source Loop Energy
    • Water to Water heat pump energy and efficiencies
    • Radiant Slab energy
    • Biomass Boiler plant heat output
    • Heat recovery system energies
    • Outdoor air volumes
    • Main ventilation units air volumes
    • Electrical consumptions of main mechanical equipment.
    • Domestic water consumption
    • Solar domestic hot water preheat energy
    • Domestic hot water energy
    • Total electrical power consumption
    • Separate consumption for lighting, mechanical and plug loads within power distribution system.
    • Photovoltaic power generation
    • Wind turbine power generation
  • Alert notifications to responsible persons when: a failure status or malfunction of the monitored systems and subsystems are detected. The alert processing criteria are evaluating hourly.
  • Reporting of the real-time actual energy consumption and building performances broken down to the system and subsystem levels.
  • Real-time and regular monthly systems performances and energy reports that will be issued to the facility educational and O&M purposes.
  • Annual system function and energy report issued for comparison and calibration of the original design building energy model (support for the LEED EA Credit 5 requirements).
  • Users’ interface to the EMIS reports via web-browsers and EMIS KIOS interfaces.

This project is currently in the baselining phase. Subsequent phases will include providing regular monthly and annual systems performances and energy reports for diagnostic, educational and O&M purposes.
