The Building Commissioning Association (BCA) is an international non-profit organization recognized as an authority on building commissioning. The association is education-driven, and is populated by many professionals from various sectors of the commercial building industry who have maintained the highest standards and practices during the commissioning process. This large collaboration of professionals entitles the BCA to set guidelines and provide direction through quality governance and management procedures. The BCA involves itself in the commissioning community by: developing new technical resources, forming collaborative ties with related organizations within the building community, holding an annual conference to present and discuss the latest industry innovations, and managing certification programs for commissioning professionals.
The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) is a professional association that provides in-depth information and networking within the fields of energy engineering, energy management, renewable and alternative energy, power generation, energy services, sustainability, and other such areas. Consisting of over 14,000 professionals in 83 different countries, the AEE is a world-wide authority in the aforementioned fields. In addition, the AEE has developed a number of widely recognized energy certification programs. The AEE is made up of 70 local chapter houses across the US and abroad, which meet regularly to discuss regional issues.
The Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) is an organization that focuses on promoting and accelerating the transformation to high-performing, healthy, green buildings and communities throughout Canada. The Council fosters this transformation through developing and advancing industry standards and best practices, advocating for green buildings, and developing educational tools to support its members in implementing sustainable design and construction practices.
APEGBC
The Association for Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia
The Association for Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC) regulates and governs the engineering and geosciences professions in BC under the authority of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act. APEGBC sets and maintains high academic experience and professional practice standards for all its members. Only individuals licensed by APEGBC are allowed to undertake and assume responsibility for engineering and geoscientist projects in the province of BC.
BC Hydro Power Smart is a division of BC Hydro that focuses on conserving and efficiently using energy. Power Smart offers many programs and educational resources to help BC Hydro’s residential, commercial, and industrial customers, as well as builders and developers, save energy. Power Smart hosts an annual forum that brings together leaders in the conservation industry from across North America to provide education and networking opportunities.
The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) is a non-profit organization serving business, industry, government and consumers in Canada and worldwide. The CSA is membership-based and includes members from across Canada and the globe. The CSA works in Canada and around the world to develop standards that address real needs, such as the enhancement of public safety, health, quality of life, environmental stewardship, and trade facilitation.

The Sustainable Energy Management Associate Certificate (SEMAC)
The Sustainable Energy Management Associate Certificate (SEMAC) is a partnership program between BCIT and BC Hydro, with funding support from Natural Resources Canada – Office of Energy Efficiency. This program is set-up to promote and support employment opportunities in the growing field of sustainable energy management, specifically for commercial and institutional buildings. The program is intended for those students that are interested in expanding their knowledge of sustainable energy management, in implementing that knowledge at their company or building, or in transitioning into a career in energy management.
